Non-contact model test and numerical simulation of plastic zone in sandy soil foundation

Reasonable determination of the ultimate bearing capacity foundation is great significance in engineering applications. Based on self-developed non-contact testing device for plastic zone shallow foundation, this paper carries out model test research sandy soil and analyzes development law under action load. The main advantages functional characteristics system are that it can realize displacement deformation soil, dynamic process shear deformation, be obtained intuitively. process, morphological boundary characteristics, failure mode sand obtained. starts from edges both sides plate; with increase load, gradually develops downward approaches to center line, finally crosses through at bottom until local occurs. measured a symmetrical spindle shape thin ends bulge middle; plate partially bulges, forming “V” shaped zone, forms triangular compression represents typical punching mode. In order study distribution range different loads widths, Universal Distinct Element Code (UDEC) based discrete element method used numerical simulation research. By conducting parameterized analyzing results, changes load width, variation (1) depth bottom, (2) width (3) ratio (4) (5) has significant guiding design.
